Holly Carneyhan ⭐ Accounting Technician, Northeast High
"She is the cement that holds Northeast together," said Tavis Massey, Northeast High principal. "She is willing to complete any task that is presented to her, from designing t-shirts to ensuring that we have faculty and staff luncheons. I have seen her advocate for students and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that students have a voice."
Holly has been with CMCSS for almost 27 years, and today, we celebrate her as one of the TOP FIVE Classified Employees of the Year. Holly's impact on her school community can be seen through her interactions with students, faculty, and staff. She truly loves her Eagle community and proudly shows her TALONS.
Holly will join the 2024 Classified Employees of the Year for a celebration hosted by the CMC Education Foundation. She may also win the grand prize - $500 courtesy of Clarksville Fencing!

The Mayor`s Youth Council is accepting applications from high school juniors and seniors for the 2024-2025 school year in Clarksville-Montgomery County. Youth Council members will serve for a period of one academic year term. Returning youth council members are required to reapply each year. Mike Hogue ⭐ Lead Building Maintenance Technician
"Mike Hogue promotes a positive culture by raising the bar for excellent customer service through his honesty, upholding his promises, and strong work ethic," said Kevin Scott, Building Maintenance Manager. "Mike’s loyalty and leadership elevate workplace morale and promote teamwork."
Mike has been with CMCSS for 19 years, and today, we celebrate him as one of the TOP FIVE Classified Employees of the Year. He enjoys working with his Operations crew and supporting students as they explore careers in the trades. Mike actively participates in the district`s annual Construction Competition.

We all have a reason why we`re grateful for the service and sacrifice of our military servicemembers. The impact becomes much more significant when you hear from the children of those who choose to serve their country. Nearly 30 percent of CMCSS students are military-connected. Our district proudly supports our military families.
We loved seeing all of the community support as our students prepared for state testing! There are so many positive stories to share. 🥰

As a reminder, tomorrow (Wednesday, April 17) is Purple Up Day! We proudly support our military-connected students and families. Join us in your favorite purple attire tomorrow as we show our commitment to our military children.
Nearly 30 percent of CMCSS students are military-connected. Schools across the district partner with Fort Campbell and military-support organizations in a variety of ways to educate, empower, and encourage respect in our students for our nation`s servicemembers.
CMCSS students across the district recently participated in the annual Gifted Expo. The event was held at Central Services South, where students chose a topic and presented it to peers, faculty, and families.
We are so impressed by the talent and creativity of our students!
Barksdale Elementary and Spanish Immersion Elementary families had a blast at STEM Night! Students were able to show off science, technology, engineering, and math skills to their families. Special thanks to the community partners who came out to support the event - including CDE Lightband and Clarksville High students!
Barksdale was awarded a Big Idea Grant from the CMC Education Foundation - which brought the Adventure Science Center into the school for hands-on demonstrations and activities.
CMCSS Music Programs Awarded Nearly $150,000 Towards New Instruments
CMCSS students will soon have another opportunity to expand their creative pursuits. Seven schools in the district were named as recipients of the Mr. Holland Opus Foundation grant. New instruments, with a total value of $147,250.96, will be purchased for the schools.
The Mr. Holland Opus Foundation is a national organization that seeks to serve schools, specifically in low-income communities, by replacing old instruments. The grant is filling a great need in the schools, as many students rely on using school-owned equipment. These instruments will allow more students to participate in band programs.
Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation selected seven CMCSS schools based on the priorities of access to instruments. Kenwood, New Providence, West Creek middle schools, and Northeast, Northwest, Montgomery Central, and West Creek high schools will all benefit from the grant.
“I think it’s important for all students to be a part of music,” said Blair Boothe, Band Director at Northeast High School. “It teaches us so much about life.”
On average, 4,000 schools nationwide apply for the grant each year, but about 100 schools receive it.
CMCSS participated in a study as part of the State of the Arts program developed in partnership with the Country Music Association and, through participation, had the opportunity to apply for the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation grant.
About the State of the Arts Program
The State of the Arts program was developed and launched in 2018 as a public-private partnership between the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation and the Tennessee Department of Education. The program seeks to expand student access to high-quality music and arts education by leveraging Tennessee’s rich history in the arts. The State of the Arts program and our vision for arts education aim to bring quality, sequential visual and performing arts instruction delivered by a certified arts educator during the school day to every public school student in Tennessee.

CMCSS Classified Employee of the Year Spotlight
Heidi Darnell ⭐ Byrns Darden Elementary School ⭐
Heidi Darnell has been with Byrns Darden Elementary for 20 years. Today, we celebrate her as the school`s Classified Employee of the Year! Heidi has filled many roles at the school and serves as an administrative assistant, FIT champion, and communication coordinator.
"The thing I love the most about Byrns Darden Elementary School is the amazing group of employees I have been blessed to work with throughout my career, along with all the sweet babies I get to fall in love with year after year," said Heidi. "Watching our students grow up and become outstanding students and members of the community has been so rewarding. I am beyond grateful to have played a small part in their journey."

Classified Employee of the Year Shoutout
Teri Defrange ⭐ Kenwood Middle School ⭐
Teri Defrange began her CMCSS career five years ago as a cafeteria monitor. She`s also served in the cafeteria and today supports students as an Educational Assistant.
"I enjoy the feeling of making a difference with the children by building a relationship," shared Teri. She said she truly enjoys "watching their inner light bulb go off."
