Sra Molina Osorio has spent the past four years teaching 3rd grade at Spanish Immersion Elementary at Barksdale. This year, we are proud to recognize her as one of the school's Teachers of the Year!

"I am amazed at how much I have learned from my students. Each one of them has taught me something new, whether it’s through their creativity, persistence, or the unique way they see the world," she said. "I’ve learned the power of asking questions and how curiosity sparks excitement in learning. My student’s curiosity encourages me to think deeply about the material and find new ways to make learning exciting and engaging. Their enthusiasm is a daily reminder of the joy of discovery and learning. Most importantly, I’ve learned that every student brings something special to the classroom.
Watching my students succeed is a reminder that the work I do is meaningful and has a lasting effect on their lives. The joy of witnessing their success reignites my passion for teaching and drives me to keep making a difference."

We are honored to have Sra. Molina Osorio and all of our educators who strive to make a defining difference every day!

Amanda Buback has been teaching for four years in early childhood education with CMCSS. Before becoming a Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) teacher, Ms. Buback served as an education assistant and substitute teacher.

Ms. Buback shared that her students have taught her a lot over the years. "Especially with our youngest learners, each new group of students reinforces the criticality of teaching social-emotional learning and prevocational skills prior to challenging them to grow their academic strengths," she said.

Ms. Buback shared that her students have taught her a lot. "Especially with our youngest learners, each new group of students reinforces the criticality of teaching social-emotional learning and prevocational skills prior to challenging them to grow their academic strengths," she said. "My students have taught me that my first priority is to meet each and every child where they are and to ensure they feel accepted, safe, and loved within our classroom environment. Additionally, teaching consistently reminds me what an inherent privilege it is to be a source of influence in their young lives, as well as to find the joy and humor in our time together--there is no shortage of laughs!"

Congratulations, Ms. Buback, on being named a Pisgah Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Join us in celebrating Holly Bucy, a Teacher of the Year for Rossview Elementary! Ms. Bucy has been changing lives inside the classroom for 14 years. "Over the years, I have really begun to love teaching science," she shared. "My students have always been very into it and eager to learn how things work OR why different reactions happen. It is fun to show them some phenomenon and get their brains thinking about how it connects to what we learn. We always discuss what they notice and what they wonder. One of my favorite things to teach them is about energy and circuits. It is during this unit that you always see EVERY student shine. The way their brains get to thinking and experimenting with how energy works is really amazing."

Ms. Bucy said patience is essential for elementary school students. "Early on, I learned that patience is a must, and I learned the value of a long pause," she explained. "My students have taught me more than I could have ever imagined, but one thing I can give them is time. Time to think. When I give them time, you see LOTS of connections and creativity. I have received questions that I honestly didn’t know how to answer, and so we explore and research together. We grow together. They have taught me that learning is a LIFE-LONG skill and it is something that we should be eager for throughout our whole life."

"I have been teaching for 14 years, and one of my favorite lessons to teach is the `tiny house` project we do in 7th Grade STEM," shared Ms. Harding. "It`s one of my favorites because the students create amazing designs and put so much detail into the project. They fall in love with their creation and get so upset when class is over. The best part is they are applying so many math standards to a real-world problem and have no idea."

As the STEM and Culinary Arts teacher at Rossview Middle, Ms. Harding spends much of her day engaging in hands-on learning with students. This is one of the many reasons she was selected as Rossview Middle School`s Teacher of the Year!

"I also love teaching Culinary to our 8th grade crew," she shared. "They have made some amazing dishes while learning about entrepreneurship of owning their own restaurant. I teach them about marketing, real estate, advertisement, and so many more life lessons that they can apply in the years to come."

Thank you, Ms. Harding, for creating an engaging learning environment for students!

"Each student gets to experience an adventure inside the gymnasium with unique outdoor stations. Some [activities] include rock climbing, rope swinging, slacklining, camping, fishing, archery, axe throwing, hiking, bird watching, kayaking, biking, wildlife tracking, and relaxing in a hammock. The Great Outdoors Unit allows my students to use their imaginations and experience things they might not have ever done before while challenging themselves physically, mentally, and socially."

Mr. Griffy shared his hope that the activities "spark interest to get them to go on adventures outside school with their families." Thank you, Mr. Griffy, for sharing activities that help our families stay active together!
