Family Interest Meeting for Spanish Immersion at Barksdale Elementary
This meeting is open to incoming kindergarten families - beginning kindergarten in the 2025-2026 school year.

The National Blue Ribbon Award-winning Spanish Immersion Elementary School uses a proven method of educating children by immersing them in the Spanish language so they become bilingual. In a language immersion program, the classroom environment becomes the setting for language acquisition through subject content instruction, educational discourse, and social interactions. Students who enter the program need to be committed to continuing Spanish dual-language learning through 5th grade at Barksdale, with options to continue immersion through high school.

CMCSS Continues to Offer Dyslexia Screening Events
After two successful screening events, the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System will host monthly Dyslexia Screening Events for families in the Montgomery County community.

Next session is January 28, 2025
9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Families must sign up for a time in the Google Form for an appointment. No walk-ins will be available. There will also be an option on the form to discuss your child’s reading data and answer questions. This will not include a screener and the student does not have to be in attendance.
Who is Eligible:
To participate in the screening, children must be at least four years old and up to 12th grade. Students do not have to be enrolled in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. A parent or guardian must remain on-site during the screening. If the child is a CMCSS student, the screener’s results will be shared with the child’s school.
If a student has been previously screened for characteristics of dyslexia, please bring or share the information using the registration link.

The Macy`s Parade is cool, but we love a fun kindergarten parade so much more! Plus, kindergarten teachers who are willing to dress up in inflatable costumes and parade through the school - that`s something really special. The floats created by our youngest students and their families were 😍

Students from Montgomery Central High and Clarksville High are in New York City preparing with hundreds of talented high school students as part of the Great American Marching Band.
Congratulations to Megan Hayes (MCHS), Addyson Jurecki (MCHS), Kayla Saelens (CHS - not pictured), and Evie Kruger (CHS - not pictured) for earning a place to perform with the ensemble in the 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
For school-wide composite scores, 72% of CMCSS schools met or exceeded student growth expectations, an increase from 61% in the 2022-2023 school year. The following schools received top composite scores of 4 or 5 for student growth:

This November, we will celebrate our military-veteran CMCSS employees. Nearly 30% of our students are military-connected, and many of our employees are military families or veterans who understand the unique situations our students experience. Thank you for your service!

CMCSS exceeded expectations in all system-wide content areas except for numeracy, which remains a primary focus this school year due to the recent adoption of new standards and high-quality instructional materials. A specific area of focus is middle school math. CMCSS is improving its support systems for the transition from elementary to middle school to enhance student outcomes during this crucial period. Although there is still room for growth, CMCSS`s middle schools experienced the highest growth levels in nearly a decade, with 88% of middle schools meeting or exceeding expectations for the overall school-wide composite—a remarkable 75-point increase from the 2022-2023 school year.
“Every CMCSS teacher and administrator`s dedication to high-quality instruction is driving progress in student achievement and growth across our district,” stated Chief Academic Officer Dr. Schanda Doughty who started in her role in the summer before last school year. “These gains reflect not only strategic focus but the relentless commitment to excellence that brings our students and schools to new levels of success.”

CMCSS improved its graduation rate by nearly 3 percentage points to 95.1%. This is the highest year-over-year increase for CMCSS since 2014. This graduation rate is around 3 points higher than the state average, and only half of the districts in Tennessee have a graduation rate of 95% or higher. Additionally, CMCSS achieved significant graduation gains with multiple subgroups, including an 11.7-point increase for Native American students, a 10.9-point increase for students experiencing homelessness, an 8.9-point increase for students with disabilities, and a 6-point increase for English language learners, among other improvements.

CMCSS achieved an impressive system-wide composite student growth score of 5, the highest score possible, marking a significant 3-point increase from the score of 2 in the 2022-2023 school year. CMCSS’ district designation was upgraded to Advancing from Satisfactory last year. The district also made notable progress in literacy, rising by another point to reach a system-wide score of 4, which is a 3-point increase from 2021-2022. Additionally, CMCSS maintained top growth scores of 5 in both science and social studies.
