Utility consumption was lower than expected in 2020-2021 due to suspension of in-person learning in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Energy consumption continued to be lower than expected in 2021-2022, as approximately 15k students opted to participate in virtual rather than in-person learning. CMCSS increased in all utilities for the 2022-2023 school year, due to most students returning to in-person learning and the opening of Kirkwood Middle School. However, the large increase of 47.6% in water consumption is a result of several water lines at multiple locations that were damaged due to cold weather causing the lines to freeze and burst during the months of November and December.
