Provide Feedback on Fine Arts Standards

In 2016, the State Board convened a review committee composed of Tennessee educators to revise the state’s fine arts standards. The newly revised fine arts standards are now available for public review. Prior to reading the draft standards, the state encourages you to read the overall introduction to the fine arts standards here.

It’s Almost Graduation Time!

The 2016 graduating classes of CMCSS will begin ceremonies on Thursday, May 26 in the Dunn Center at Austin Peay State University, with live web streaming available.  Congratulations to these young men and women as they prepare to enter the world of college and career. Abby Binkley, Executive Director of Education Foundation Abby Binkley, currently assistant principal at Northeast High School, has been named Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation.

Principal Named for Montgomery Central Middle

Please note: This article was originally published on 5/5/2016. Information and/or dates from past events may be not be relevant for the current school year. Vicki Winner has been named principal of Montgomery Central Middle School for the 2016-17 school year. She replaces Dee-Etta Whitlock who has taken another position in the district.  Ms. Winner will join CMCSS from Sykesville, Maryland where she has served as principal of Carrolltowne Elementary since 2011.

Administrative Announcements

Carla Offutt, Assistant Principal-Oakland Elementary School  Carla Offutt has been named assistant principal at Oakland Elementary School beginning with the 2016-17 school year.  She has served as the academic coach at Oakland Elementary since the school opened in 2015.  She previously served as an academic coach and teacher at Glenellen Elementary School from 2011-2015.  Prior to coming to CMCSS, Offutt taught at elementary schools in Chattanooga and served as a Preschool Director in Murfreesboro.

Premier Donates to CMCSS

Premier Medical Group has donated $26,000 to support the Health Sciences Academy at Northwest High School and other CMCSS programs, includiing co-sponsorship of the annual Pass and Go program which motivates students to take Advanced Placement courses. Premier Medical Group has been a long-standing partner with the school sytem and CMC Education Foundation, providing many supports and sponsorships.

Committees recently began updating existing health education standards for all grade levels. These standards were last updated in 2006. NEHS Principal Named for 16-17

Please note: This article was originally published on 5/2/2016. Information and/or dates from past events may be not be relevant for the current school year. Tavis Massey has been named principal of Northeast High School, replacing Garry Chadwell who was appointed assistant principal at Kenwood High School. Massey, who has served as assistant principal at Northeast High School since 2012, earned his master of education degree from Tennessee State University, where he also earned a B.S. in business administration. He served as academy principal at Metropolitan Nashville’s Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School for six years. He also has six years of teaching experience in middle and elementary schools in Metro Nashville Schools.
