As we communicated at the beginning of the school year, in accordance with state law, school systems must implement a Family Life Curriculum in conformance with state curriculum guidelines. In CMCSS, curriculum development teams comprised of educators and community stakeholders collaborated to locally devise Family Life Curriculum resources in conformance with state standards for grades 6-12.
In CMCSS, the Family Life Curriculum will be taught in May for middle school students in physical education/health classes and for high school students enrolled in Lifetime Wellness courses. Parents/guardians have the right to excuse their students from the Family Life Curriculum. CMCSS will begin sending forms to families to opt-out or opt-in to the curriculum beginning in mid-March, more than 30 days before the curriculum will be taught in your child’s school.
To give families additional time to review the Family Life Curriculum materials that were developed by the local committee, CMCSS is sharing those materials now, around two months in advance of the opt-out window. In addition to the Family Life Curriculum materials, CMCSS is sharing the alternate lessons that will be taught for families who choose to opt out.

Parents/guardians will receive additional communication in March regarding the opt-out/opt-in process.
