Melissa Izatt has been selected as the Chief Human Resources Officer, effective April 1. Izatt will be replacing Jeanine Johnson, who will be retiring at the end of the school year after 23 years of service in CMCSS.

Izatt has been the Director of Educator Quality since 2019. She has served in the Human Resources Department for nine years, previously holding the positions of Human Resources Coordinator and Substitute Program Manager. Before entering human resources leadership, Izatt had 15 years of experience as an instructional leader and educator in various roles, including assistant principal, teacher, After-School Program Director, and summer and after-school program instructor. She began her career with CMCSS in 1999 as a substitute teacher. She was named both a Distinguished Classroom Teacher and a Teacher of the Year at Northeast Elementary School. Izatt has presented at several state and national education and human resources conferences.

She earned both her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and B.S. in Elementary Education from Austin Peay State University. In 2008, Izatt was named Graduate Student of the Year at Austin Peay State University. She completed the McREL Balanced Leadership Training for Administrators and is a graduate of the CMCSS Aspiring Administrators Academy.

Izatt and her husband are both graduates of Montgomery Central High School. All three of her children have graduated from or are currently attending CMCSS schools. “My passion for the employees, students, families, and community we serve is a leading driving force and motivator,” stated Izatt. “The Chief Human Resources Officer position will provide an opportunity to not only expand my interactions with each of these groups, but to also build capacity in others, as the work of a school system is one based on collaboration and trust amongst all stakeholders.”

“Mrs. Izatt is a well-respected person in our community who will continue to lead our Human Resources Department with integrity, professionalism, and passion for our people,” stated Director of School Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder. “We will ensure there is a smooth transition of leadership in the Human Resources Department over the coming months. We thank Ms. Johnson for her leadership and service and wish her well on her retirement at the end of the school year!”
