December 2022 Updates and Reminders

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Cold and Flu Season As we continue to experience cold and flu season, CMCSS is averaging a typical, pre-COVID 1-2% higher student absenteeism rate across the district. With all communicable diseases, it is important to stay home if you are sick, cover your cough or sneeze in your bent elbow, and clean your hands often. We continue to receive feedback about the challenges with getting medical appointments during this peak time. As a reminder of CMCSS’ attendance policy, parents or legal guardians may submit notes for students to be excused up to five (5) days per school year for any reason. Schools and Programs of Choice – Open Enrollment CMCSS offers several non-traditional schools and programs of choice for students. These innovative programs are designed to provide families the opportunity to choose schools and programs that will help their children reach their potential. In January 2023, the open enrollment period will begin for schools and programs of choice as well as schools with available seats for the 2023-24 school year: Schools of Choice: CMCSS K-12 Virtual, Moore Magnet STEM Elementary, Spanish Immersion at Barksdale Elementary, Early Technical College at TCAT, and Middle College at APSU Programs of Choice: Academy of Business and Marketing (Clarksville High School), Academy of Coding and App Development (NEW! 2023-24 Schools and Programs of Choice & Open Enrollment

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System offers several non-traditional schools and programs of choice for students. Each year, families can apply to express interest in their students participating in the program.



CMCSS Will Host Invitation-Only Hiring Event on December 1

This invitation-only event will allow applicants to interview and potentially receive same-day offers. Candidates can begin onboarding immediately.



School Board Presents November Points of Pride

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board presented Point of Pride awards during their formal meeting on November 15, 2022.



Clarksville-Montgomery County Board of Education Recognized as School Board of the Year

The Tennessee School Boards Association annually honors a school board for excellent service.

Good afternoon, CMCSS families, Happy Friday! Please see below for a few updates and reminders. November Calendar Reminders Sunday, November 6: Daylight Saving Time Ends (Set clocks back one hour) Tuesday, November 8: Election Day (Staff development; Students do not report) Friday, November 11: Veterans Day (No School; Students do not report) Wednesday, November 23-Friday, November 25: Thanksgiving Break (No school; Students do not report) On Veterans Day and every day, we honor all our service men and women, both past and present. To our employees, parents, guardians, family members, and community members who have served, and those who continue to serve, thank you for your service and sacrifice. Teacher Residency Pathways and Hiring CMCSS will hold informational sessions for those interested in participating in our innovative, nationally-recognized Teacher Residency Pathways. If you have ever considered a career in education, the Teacher Residency Program allows you to pursue a dream without tuition or textbook expenses. Selected candidates will also be employed as CMCSS educational assistants throughout the program. Applications will open on Nov. 18 and are due Jan. 9, 2023. On Thu., Nov. 17, at 5:30 p.m., leaders in the Teacher Residency Program will discuss the Elementary/Middle Teacher Residency. This program will allow those who do not currently hold a bachelor’s degree to pursue a degree and license to teach elementary or middle-grade levels and will also earn a special education interventionist endorsement through a three-year program. Residents will begin coursework at Nashville State Community College and transfer to Austin Peay State University to complete degree requirements.
