A Family Guide to Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI²) 2021-2022

Response to instruction and intervention is the way CMCSS intervenes with students who are struggling academically by focusing on quality core instruction and intervention of specific skill deficits. The purpose of RTI² is to intervene with students quickly in the area of need so skill deficit gaps do not develop as they progress through school. What does the RTI² Framework look like? The RTI² Framework has three tiers; each tier provides intensifying levels of support. In Tier l, all students receive evidence-based, high-quality, general education standards-based instruction that incorporates ongoing universal screening and assessments to inform instruction. Tier I is another name for the regular core instruction all students get every year. In Tier ll, students identified as having significant skill deficits receive intervention targeted to the specific area of need. Student progress is consistently monitored during intervention and decisions about tier movement are based on progress monitoring data. In Tier III, more intensive interventions are provided to students who have not made significant progress in Tier II, or who demonstrate a deficit significant enough to warrant immediate Tier III intervention. Students are monitored closely to determine if the intervention is effective. Movement from Tier III is dependent upon intervention success. Tier II and III intervention occur in addition to regular classroom instruction. Schools will communicate with parents in writing when students go into and out of intervention, as well as update progress during intervention. What are the key components of RTI²? APSU College-Readiness Camp

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 2! Austin Peay State University (APSU) is hosting an on-campus College-Readiness Camp July 19-30 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The camp is designed to support high school graduates in the transition to post-secondary and will focus on the following areas: study skills applying to college completing the FAFSA, ACCUPLACER, or ACT tutoring in math, reading, and writing enrichment sessions Career Services information for selecting the right major Door prizes will be offered during the duration of the camp to include a Google Chromebook. In order to assist with planning, please indicate your interest in attending by completing the form linked here no later than July 2. Additional information will be sent directly to you prior to the beginning of camp.

West Creek High – Summer Learning Program

A recent communication was sent to some middle school families: You are receiving this message because your eighth-grade student (name specified in email) has been promoted to high school even though they failed two or more classes in middle school. We are reaching out to you today to ask for your assistance in ensuring that your student comes to high school in August prepared for the academic course load. West Creek High School will be offering a unique opportunity for your student to attend a High School Summer Session. The session will take place for two weeks, July 6-9 and July 12-16 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. Completion of this program will bridge the academic gap. Additionally, this program will ensure that incoming high-school student-athletes are eligible to play sports at the high-school level. All athletes must be academically eligible to participate in the fall in accordance with TSSAA rules.
