State Releases District Data

The State Department of Education released district level achievement data taken from last spring’s assessments for grades 3-high school. CMCSS remained in the same category as last year, in Need of Improvement.   The purpose of these assessments is to provide feedback and they are only one snapshot of what students know.  We use this data in addition to daily classroom data to improve classroom instruction and learning opportunities for students.  Understanding where there are needs creates opportunities for professional development for teachers and affords students opportunities to learn the information in a more meaningful manner.



2015-16 School Bus Route Info Available

Families of CMCSS students will be able to access school bus information for the 2015-16 school year in late July. By going to the school system’s website and clicking on Bus Information, parents will be able to input their students’ addresses and find out their students’ bus numbers and bus stop locations. School Calendars To Be Delivered in Late July

The 2014-15 School Calendar will be delivered to registered students’ homes in late July. There are several date corrections to be made and a label on the outside of the calendar will note those to be corrected.  The calendar on the system website is correct. Administrative Appointment Announced

Barber has been named part-time assistant principal and government teacher at Rossview High School. She previously served as academic coach for West Creek Middle. Barber earned her educational leadership endorsement from Trevecca Nazarene University, her M.A. In curriculum and instruction from Austin Peay State University and a B.S. In allied health from Oregon Institute of Technology. She has served the district since 2001, as a science teacher at Northeast Middle School and most recently as academic coach since 2008. She completed the Aspiring Administrators Academy and has been a facilitator of the district curriculum revision and benchmark writing committee. Additionally, she has served as a state trainer for the Tennessee Depatment of Education State Standards Awareness Workshops.



CMCSS Administrator Announcements

Clara Patterson, Assistant Principal Barkers Mill Elementary School Clara Patterson has been chosen to serve as an assistant principal for Barkers Mill Elementary School, replacing Melissa Johnson, who was named assistant principal at Liberty Elementary School.  Patterson began her teaching career in 1976 in Huntsville, Alabama.  She transitioned to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky Schools before coming to the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System in 1987.  Patterson has served in several roles in administration, with her most recent role as an academic coach at Minglewood Elementary School.



High School Graduations Available to Order

All eight CMCSS high schools had graduation ceremonies in the Dunn Center at Austin Peay State University May 22-24. The ceremonies were live web streamed by Austin Peay State University at http://graduation.cmcss.net/. Copies of the graduation exercises are available by ordering through the APSU Communications Department.



Elementary Director Announced

Beth Unfried, who currently serves as principal of Norman Smith, has been selected as an Elementary Schools Director, replacing Priscilla Story who is retiring. Mrs. Unfried began in CMCSS in 1988 as a substitute teacher, then joined the district as a fifth grade teacher at Minglewood Elementary. She was named assistant principal at Northeast Elementary in 1995. She has served as principal at Kenwood Elementary, West Creek Elementary and joined Smith in 2010, where the school was chosen as the Tennessee SCORE Prize winner and was named a state Reward School last year.



Legacy Art Collection Prints Available for Purchase

Local artist Lynne Waters Griffey was commissioned by the Foundation to create 7 original watercolor renderings of our high schools because of her connection to education and passion for working with non-profits. Each print purchased will benefit the Count Me In Endowment campaign which will help to sustain the work of the Foundation for years to come. The first 18×24 Limited Edition Giclee prints (6-50) currently are available for purchase and can be picked up from the Foundation office at 621 Gracey Avenue. High Schools Director Announced, NWHS Principal Named

Please note: This article was originally published on 4/16/2014. Information and/or dates from past events may be not be relevant for the current school year. Dr. Bryan Johnson has been named Director of High Schools, replacing  Dr. Rosalyn Evans, who will retire at the end of this school year.   Dr. Johnson, who earned his doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University, served as principal of Northwest High School for two years and was assistant principal of West Creek High School for two years. He has worked in CMCSS since 2007, beginning his tenure as an assistant football coach at Clarksville High, then as head football coach at Northeast High School, where he taught special education.  He earned his master’s of arts in teaching from Belmont University and his bachelor’s of business administration from Austin Peay State University.
